The Requirement

Fire Station number 2 at 5970 University Ave Halifax, Nova Scotia, is an attractive old building, built in 1908. A few years ago some doors had been fitted which were not in keeping with the age of the building. These needed replacing and Halifax Regional Municipality decided to replace them with new door,s built to the required specification, but with an appearance of wood that had been painted red, as the original door would have been.

The Powdertech Solution

Powdertech's Wood Finish technique can create the appearance of wood in powder coating on aluminum or steel. Pre-galvanised mild steel doors made by Jewers were coated in Powdertech Wood Finish effect applied to RAL  3020 matt. Due to the adverse weather conditions in the area, we carried out our 8-stage silane (non-chrome) pre-treatment and added a zinc-rich epoxy primer to the edges.
