The Requirement

Perry Bar railway station became a key visitor destination, situated close to Alexander Stadium, home of the opening and closing ceremony as well as athletics events. Update of the station buildings followed the popular trend for the appearance of rusted metal, providing a contemporary industrial look. Re-development of the railway station was part of a £30.9 million project which also included the bus interchange. 

Rather than use Corten Steel for a large planter, the client wanted to use a surface finish that would not stain the surrounding paving after rainfall. 

The Powdertech Solution

Our 'Sandstorm' finish, part of the Evolution/Rust Collection, complemented the main building perfectly. It provides a very natural appearance of rust with subtle variation in tone, the overall effect is a pleasing consistency of shade. Importantly the finish is stable and stays where it has been put - even in the heaviest rainfall. 

We think we can say that Powdertech Corby put in an appearance of sorts, at the highly successful Commonwealth Games 2022. The entire project was finished on time for the Games and within budget. 

Powdertech coated over 100 mild steel panels and post-brackets weighing up to 100kg  which were joined together to form the large planter.
