The Requirement
The words of William Emerton, Director, Emerton Roofing (Western Ltd) are used in the project account below.
"In August 2025, I was approached by the owners of a set of townhouses located within a conservation area. The property featured a combination of clay brick and cast stone, including a prominent eaves band course—a row of decorative sandstone-effect blocks adjacent to the guttering.
The homeowners reported that the eaves band course had failed. The cast stone had developed multiple cracks and had ultimately become a health and safety concern. I was tasked with making the area safe and identifying a long-term solution.
Following investigation, it became clear that cast stone was not a suitable material for this application, and a like-for-like replacement would likely result in the same issues. Therefore, we needed to source an alternative material that could replicate the original aesthetic while offering improved durability."
