The Requirement

OSMO, Battersea is 166,000 sq. ft of contemporary flexible office space located between Battersea Power Station and Vauxhall’s new Linear Park in the heart of Battersea. This building aims to make a big statement on sustainability and well-being and the natural look of Corten was the initial inspiration for the vertical and horizontal 2-part fins across its glass façade. However, Corten itself was unsuitable, run-off staining issues being one concern, together with the need for consistency in shade across interlocking fins. 

The Powdertech Solution

EPR architects approached Powdertech and we worked together on creating a new shade inspired by rusted metal, but with consistency in shade and incorporating a brighter, golden hue.

Our experience in developing and applying finishes enabled us to produce a ‘consistent rust’. This would be stable with no staining, as are all our rust finishes.  We created ten varying shades for the designer to review, including full-sized samples that could be erected temporarily on the building for in-situ viewing. The shade chosen was applied to 4500 linear metres of aluminium extrusions plus fixing brackets. Delivery required careful labelling of matching halves of fins for installation on site, a process we are very used to undertaking.
