Powdertech Wood Finish (PWF ™) is a range of architectural powder coatings, formulated to match the natural variations in colour, grain density and grain pattern of wood. Applied to aluminium, galvanized and mild steel, Powdertech Wood Finish combines the appeal of wood with the longevity of metal. Wood Finish is a decorative and protective metal coating for interior and exterior applications.

Importantly, independent testing has confirmed that Powdertech Wood Finish meets fire reaction classification A2-s1, d0, making it suitable for use in all building for all types of occupancy.

No pattern repeat - no two coated pieces ever look exactly the same
Can be applied to most metallic substrates including aluminium, galvanized steel, cast metals and stainless steel
Excellent abrasion resistance, weather resistance and colour stability
Low maintenance - unlike wood. Will not rot or warp. Needs no additional sealant

Wood Finish is available in 10 stock colour effects, and custom colours can be produced.

Typical applications include aluminium profiles, doors, balustrading, facades, urban furniture, fences, gates and related steel structures

Powder coating approvals

The Wood Finish range includes powders of different properties defined by one or more of the approvals below:-

Qualicoat: P-0301, P-0472, P-0560, P-0599. Meets Qualicoat architectural powder coating specifications.

Properties of Wood Finish powder coating

Applied gloss at 60 degrees: 20% to 70% depending on colour.

Applied film thickness. Nominal 60 microns.

Powder application

Pre-treatment: Aluminium. Titanium-Zirconium (TiZr) non-chrome 6-stage pre-treatment. Galvanized steel. Silane (Oxsilan) non-chrome 8-stage pre-treatment

Corona discharge system. Applied under ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System. Approval Nr: LRQ 10267185

Testing

Acetic Acid Salt Spray (AASS) ISO 9227:2018. PASS

Accelerated Weathering Test (Xenon Arc Exposure)– ISO 16474-2:201. PASS

Filiform Corrosion Test – ISO 4623-2:2016. PASS– F

Wood Finish powder coating finishes have significant advantages over wood

Here are some of the advantages of using Wood Finish on metal rather than using wood itself. A full comparison can be found on our Wood Finish /Wood comparison page and in the accompanying comparison data sheet.

The appearance of wood with the strength of aluminium and steel
Aluminium has a higher strength to weight ratio than wood.
Aluminium and steel can form longer spans leading to fewer fittings and quicker installation.

No maintenance required beyond the occasional wash with clean water.
Maintenance costs are lower with Wood Finish – no painting, varnishing, rotting or mildew. Aluminium does not warp.

Increased manufacturing efficiency

Fabricating and fitting wood from a factory which also processes aluminium can lead to inefficiencies.

Why hold stock of wood and aluminium when PWF can do the job of wood? Holding aluminium at the mill condition means it can be converted as late as possible, closer to the point of payment

Unchanging colour.
Wood Finish on metal does not go grey, white or bleach.

High sustainability when used in conjunction with aluminium
Aluminium is the most abundant metal in the Earth’s crust. It is highly recyclable. 75% of aluminium used today has been recycled. No forests destroyed. Powder coated aluminium can be fully recycled.
